Black students are not taking Advanced Placement courses that are becoming increasingly important for college admission. The solution that is being proposed to the College Board? Creating an AP African American History courseI am okay with that, so long as they have to take AP American History first.

And the class is open to all students, right.
Black history vs American history wouldn't be an issue if black history was simply taught as part of American history since all African-Americans just happen to be Americans.
That said, a black history class will not increase the number of blacks taking AP courses. The reasons for that particular problem are far more complex than a few cosmetic changes.
