Liberal Outrage

Rick Moran has a great piece on the whole outrage on the left about the right's reaction to Graeme Frost.

The problem as far as I can see it is that conservatives must have erased their blog posts in the middle of the night of all the nasty things they’ve written about little Graeme while no lefties were looking because for the life of me, I can’t seem to find a single example from any conservative blog where one negative word has been written about a 12 year old little boy suffering the pain and trauma from an automobile accident. Not one. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

There has, of course, been plenty written about his parents.

Moran is right. I have not seen anyone actually criticize the child, but all the invective is against his parents.

Moran has more and it is worth the read.

SCHIP and the Consequences of Choice

Another flaming idiot in Maryland.

Andrew Kujan has turned into the bane of our existence at Red Maryland. Brian Griffiths has already taken on Kujan on this post, but I think I have to throw in a couple of cents.

I have no issue with private schooling, if parents choose that route. I have no issue with parents who choose not to have health care for them or their children (as insane as that decision may be). I have house envy of the Frosts, but they have their home and I have mine. They have made their choices and they should suffer the consequences of their choices.

My problem is that I, as a taxpayer, should not have to subsidize their choices. Maybe the kids are on a scholarship to that private school, I don't know. But you have to question the prioritization of spending in a family of six, with four kids in private school, a huge house in a tony Baltimore neighborhood and no health insurance.

The political issue of SCHIP is that the Democrats and Kujan by extension, want to expand it beyond its original scope. The program was designed from the start to cover poor children, those living at or below the federal poverty line. It was not intended to cover their parents, it was not intended to cover a family of six with apparently considerable resources (as evidenced by a large house and private education). It was for poor people who had no other means of obtaining health care for their kids.

The real issue is that people make choices and those choices carry consequences. The government should not be in the business of cushioning those people who make choices and then desire protection from the consequences.

Liberal's Ethical Lines: An Oxymoron

The difference between the far right wing and the far left wing: the far right will do anything — anything — so long as the ends justifies the means. The far left folks have ethical boundaries that they try very hard not to cross: things like attacking other people’s minor children is bad form, let alone harassing a family that includes a child with severe brain damage from an auto accident.

Oh like smearing a General? Like sending Michelle Malkin (the supposed target of this attack) hate mail, bigoted statements and racial epithats.

Yeah, some ethical boundaries.

Look if the Democrats pick a boy to be their "spokesman" they should have done a better job vetting him. If he lives in a 3,000 square foot in a tony Baltimore neighborhood, some questions are going to be asked.

Privileged Is As Privileged Does

Or maybe, "It takes one to know one" is a better aphorism when it comes to college professors complaining about their "spoiled privileged students." As David French writes: "Yet this is yet another example of academic blindness. It is tough to imagine a more “privileged” person than a tenured faculty member at a major university. Six figure income. Ten month work year. Absolute job security in the absence of actual fraud or criminal behavior. No other profession in America enjoys such benefits."

San Francisco vs. The Blue Angels

Michelle Malkin has the story, an long running story, about the desire of the People's Republic of San Francisco wanting to ban the annual appearances of the U.S. Navy's Flight Demonstration Team, the Blue Angels from appearing at the city's annual Fleet Week. From news reports:

Opponents of the Blue Angels voiced their concern over the trauma the show inflicts on war refugees, the waste of fuel, and noise pollution.

“The Blue Angels are totally unnecessary,” said a resolution supporter. “I believe they are sent here to terrorize this town because we are an anti-war city.”

Funny thing is that if it ever was actually needed, like in time of war, the Angels would be the guys I would want keeping my skies safe.

Bush Drenagment and the Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

Many months ago, I lost my ability to read the diaries at Daily Kos. I have such little time to read that I figured it was not worth the effort. Fortunately, there are lots of people willing to wade into the morass, like Peter Barry Chowka, who looked up the Daily Kos reaction to the bridge collapse:

When I heard the news late Wednesday afternoon PT about the Minnesota Interstate 35W bridge collapse, after the initial shock and sadness for the victims, one of my first thoughts was that the Left would try to score points and blame the tragedy on President Bush and the Republicans.


Sure enough, within four minutes of the news breaking nationally at 7:32 pm ET on the Fox News Channel, the initial discussion thread about it at Daily Kos was already collecting comments like the following ones which are representative of hundreds of messages that soon appeared there (the first two below, by the way, were the first two to be posted):

We spend billions in Iraq

While we fall apart at home.

We have been warned

by engineers that our nation's infrastructure is in dire need of repair and upgrade.

Who needs terrorism when the inept GOP runs our nation into the ground. The "terrorists" can just sit back and watch as our nation falls apart.

Mission Accomplished.

No one has the balls to take this on

Every week there's a new national tragedy...tainted food, nutcases with automatic weapons, structural damage to cities, hospital patients dropped on the streets, dysfuctional transportation system, poorly cared for vets, trashed education system, national disasters from global warming. I am waiting for a national figure with the balls to call these warning signs what they are: Republican disdain for and neglect of government oversight,venality, insensitivity to human suffering, tax breaks for rich folks, blatant government incompetence, dirty politics, and bleeding our resources in an immoral f-----k war.

God damn right

you want services, you have to PAY FOR THEM.

That includes roads, electric grid, public transportation, airports, air traffic control, police, firemen, schools, colleges, and last AND least, military.

NO corporation is going to do those things. THERE'S NO PROFIT IN IT. And there SHOULDN'T be.

You can't run a 21st century country with a 19th century infrastructure. Or tax structure. Or 19th century thinking.

Scratch that - 16th century thinking.

I can't help thinking that the Bush tax cuts and corruption has contributed to this. Our country is falling apart, but Bush doesn't care as long as he cronies get to make money.

The only thing people knew was the the bridge collapsed and no one knew why, except these guys who look for any reason to blame Bush.

The conspiracies are going to be running thick at Kos, which is oh so helpful.

When the NTSB puts out their report, you can bet that the consiracies will include any effort to smear the Bush Administration. For example, if there is a problem with the steel used to build the structure, it will be Bush's fault, despite the fact that 40 years ago when the bridge was built, Bush was in college.

Tyler Cowan on Wealth and Inequality

Why do Democrats worry so much about income inequality in this country? Some thoughts from Tyler Cowan:

We don't take steps to redress inequalities of looks, friends, or sex life. We don't grab a kidney from you to save someone's life, even though that health difference was unfair brute luck. Redistribution of wealth has some role in maintaining a stable democracy and preventing starvation. But the power of wealth redistribution to produce net value is quite limited. The power of wealth creation to produce net value is extraordinary. Most of America's poor are already among the best-off of all humans in world history. We should be putting our resources, including our advocacy and our intellectual resources, into wealth creation as much as we can.

Can you imagine giving someone else good looks by taking away from some one else--how does that work? Do we give everyone who is lacking in a sex life a voucher to go to the Moonlight Bunny Ranch?
