Jason Bourne vs. James Bond

Matt Damon, star of the Bourne movies holds forth on the differences between Bourne and Bond:
"The Bond character will always be anchored in the 1960s and in the values of the 1960s."

The suave spy was "so anachronistic when you put it in the world we live in today", he said, but added that Bourne was no better or worse than Bond.

"Bond is an imperialist and a misogynist who kills people and laughs about it, and drinks Martinis and cracks jokes," Damon told reporters.

"Bourne is a serial monogamist whose girlfriend is dead and he does nothing but think about her."

He added that Bourne "doesn't have the support of gadgets, and he feels guilty for what he's done".
I agree tht the Bond franchise got quite silly toward the end. But Casino Royale, with Danile Craig as Bond, was a solid movie and certainly not in the vein of prior Bond movies of the Roger Moore/Timothy Dalton/Pierce Brosnan era.

What I like best about the Bourne movies is that Bourne doesn't rely on gadgets, routinely gets hurt, and actually looks at a map regularly. The Daniel Craig as Bond movies have that potential that makes Bourne so much more likable.
