Paris Hilton's Jailhouse Conversion

Hot Air has video from the View, where Barbara Walters interviews an incarcerated Paris Hilton, who speaks as though she is a hardened lifer in the Big House.

Jailhouse conversions happen all the time. Lots of convicts find God in prison and most of them are probably sincere. Given Hilton's history with histrionics, I am not convinced she is sincere in her conversion. Maybe the expereince will give her a wake up call to stop the partying and do something but I give a year--at best.

Paris Hilton Out of Jail

Normally I wouldn't care about this kind of "news" but it seems a little too preferential in treatment. According to the story:

He said privacy rules prohibited him from giving details about the medical issues, but celebrity Web site TMZ.com earlier quoted sources saying Hilton was refusing to eat much of the jail food served her.

Whitmore said that after "extensive consultation with medical personnel" it was decided to offer Hilton "reassignment" to home confinement, which she and her attorneys accepted.

Refusing to eat is not a "health issue" but a personal aversion. Now if Hilton has a nut allergy and all the jail was serving was nuts, then she has a health issue.

Just because the jail fare is not what she is used to eating is not cause for release, even if she has home detention, which is not jail at all.

Rosie Melts Down: Part (I Don't know) Really Big Number

America's favorite physicist completely lost it and had a shouting match with Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

With Rosie on her way out I guess there’s no reason for them to pretend they’re friends anymore. Here she is at her disingenuous worst, playing the “big, fat, lesbian” victim while deliberately twisting Hasselbeck’s point about the enemy in Iraq — namely, Al Qaeda — to accuse her of treating Iraqi civilians as the enemy. Or is it deliberate? The more I watch, the more I think she simply doesn’t know that Al Qaeda has a presence there. Hasselbeck should ask her at some point to describe the conflict right now as she understands it. Does she think we’re still fighting the Iraqi army, or just randomly attacking bands of civilians? That would go a long way towards explaining why she blames Bush for having killed 655,000 people while of course stridently insisting that she doesn’t think U.S. troops are terrorists — even though they’re the ones who are presumably guilty of doing the actual killing.

Hasselbeck challenges her on that point too, asking how can she say American soldiers aren’t terrorists when they’re the ones supposedly carrying out the Bushitler’s orders to liquidate Iraqis en masse. Rosie’s response: ignore the question and accuse Hasselbeck of being a bad friend for not mindlessly supporting her when she was criticized on Fox. Things deteriorate quickly from there, culminating in the two of them calling each other cowards.

Richard Jeni and Brad Delp

This weekend saw two performers I have enjoyed die.

Richard Jeni, a comedian whose performances usually had me laughing from about 1 minute into his show until hours aferward, died in an apparent suicide, although there has been no official ruling on the case. If you get a chance to see his HBO show, "The Platypus Man", get and be prepared to laugh.

Also, Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, died of unknown causes over the weeked as well. Delp's vocals, layered over complex guitar riffs by bandmate Tom Scholz, made Boston one of the best acts of the 70's and 80's. From songs like "More Than A Feeling," "Rock n' Roll Band," "Amanda," and dozens of others, Delp's vocals were a powerful influence on my childhood, when music first became a big part of my life.
