GOP mulls ending birthright citizenship

While the problem of illegal immigration is a very real one, I am not sure that this is the way to go about curbing it. According to the The Washington Times, the Republicans are considering a bill that will end what is known as birthright citizenship. Under existing American law, any child born in teh United States is automatically considered a U.S. Citizen--hence the term birthright citizenship.

One of hte many problems in the immigration debate is what to do about children born in the United states to illegal immigrants who can then sponsor their parents and family into the country legally--after decades of spending time here illegally. Granted this is a real concern, but on the scale of issues--this seems to be pretty small.

Illegal immigration can be stopped in many ways, but this seems destined to be a poor idea. Nice try, but no.
