In a case that is sure to test the limits of teh Speech and Debate Clause, U.S. District Court Judge Rosemary Collyer has order Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) to testify in a defamation case in which he accused Marines of cold-blooded murder.
Oh, by the way, those same Marines are being cleared left and right of the murder charges.
The fact is that the Speech and Debate Clause is likely to protect Murtha's statement. The question is whether the House will allow him to continue to make such irresponsible statements and whether his constituents will allow him to do so.
But then again, stranger things have happened.
