A former Glen Burnie High School band director admitted yesterday to having a yearlong sexual relationship with one of his female students through her graduation in 2004.That's it, 18 months and sex offender registration? Probation? For repeated statutory rape? Why aren't the courts and prosecutors throwing the book at these people?
He is expected to plead guilty next week to molesting another band student, his lawyer said.
Jeffrey Stephen Thompson, 37, of Severn, pleaded guilty in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court to sexual abuse of a minor, under an agreement that says prosecutors will not seek more than 18 months in jail when he is sentenced in May. He will have to register as a sex offender.
Outside the courtroom, his lawyer, Thomas C. Morrow, said he will ask Judge Joseph P. Manck to place his client on probation.

Thompson is the second Anne Arundel school system worker convicted in less than a year and a half of having a sexual relationship with a student.
In February 2006, Henry Ford Mouzon III, a former North County High School basketball coach and student advocate, was convicted of having a yearlong of sexual relationship with a student, which ended in the spring of 2005, when she was 16. Manck sentenced him to serve two months in the county jail, followed by four months of work release or house arrest, then three years of probation.
These sentences are a joke!!!

Do not expect anything more from "Judge" Manck. I have a blog as well (http://justicerunamok.blogspot.com/) and have a post on a realtor that abused his own daughter and two nieces for 8 years.
Manck sentenced the guy to 4 months, but is allowing him to leave jail to work. When eleased, he can live at home!
Justice is a travesty.
But on the teacher-student sex thing. Why are school systems putting younger teachers in high schools? When I was a kid, all my teachers were 80+ years old.
I have to wonder why, as a society, we are shocked when a 24 year old teacher becomes involved with an 18 year old student.
Henry Mouzon was 33 and the student was 15 and and Jeffrey Thompson was 35 or older and the student was 15 or 16 and regardless, school employees - even volunteer chaperones for field trips are clearly told what they should not be doing.
It is just plain WRONG!!!!
