Nanny Statism Run Wild

The People's Repbulic of Montgomery County, Maryland, the place that brought you the ban on trans fat, is planning to strike again. This time the County Council is considering legislation to require labeling on restaurant menus for national chain restaurants, including fast food chains.

According to the story posted by 630 WMAL AM, County Councilman George Leventhal says
he thinks most people aren't aware of just how unhealthy some fast food is for people.

He's expecting to formally introduce the bill late next month, and a vote isn't likely until sometime in the fall. If it passes, it would take effect one year after that happens.
Unless you have been living under a rock, people know that fast food is not as healthy as a wheat grass smoothie and here's a news flash for Mr. Leventhal--they don't care. People, including me and my family, still got McDonald's or Chik-Fil-A or other fast food and chain restaurants. It is convenient and well it usually tastes good.

The descent down the slippery slope of nanny statism has become a full fledged free-fall. This move is simply rediculous and features a paternalistic attitude by Leventhal that he knows best and he is going to protect us from us even if it means taking away all our liberty and free choice. My wife has expressed a desire to move back to Montgomery County, but with actions like these, you can bet that the People's Republic is just above a move to Antartica on my list of home choices.
