Fieger: I'm a Victim, Not a Criminal

An update on the Feiger investigation in Michigan that I previously discussed here.

In short, Geoffrey Feiger is being investigated for both federal and state campaign finance violations. Previously he has stated that he is the target of a partisan witch hunt. On Friday, the Detroit Free Press reported:
Fieger called the federal actions Republican scare tactics.

"I'm tired of all this McCarthyism -- period," he said.

The federal investigation is looking at a series of contributions from Feiger's assocaites and employees which have the taint of contributions made in the name of another, an illegal act under Federal Election laws.
The Fieger investigation has been under way for about four months and predates his fight with Cox. Fieger, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in 1998, has said he might run against Cox.

The federal investigation is being directed out of the Justice Department's Public Integrity Section in Washington, D.C., and was prompted by tips from people associated with Fieger's law firm, said people familiar with the investigation.

The FBI and IRS Criminal Investigation wouldn't discuss the details of the investigation.

Feiger continues to maintain his innocence. Interesting goings on in Michigan.
