Cardin and Stem Cell Research--Not What You Think

Later this morning actor and Parkinson's disease victim Michale J. Fox will make an appearance with Democratics Maryland Senate candidate Ben Cardin. I think anybody who thinks that Cardin is a supporter of stem cell research should carefully read this post by Big Lizard.

These are particularly desparate times for Ben Cardin. In a state with a 2 to 1 Democratic registration advantage, Michael Steele is within striking distance of winning is a massive upset.

Here is what is funny about Fox's appearance in Maryland. Chevy Chase, where the event will be held, is within spitting distance of the National Institutes of Health and a short drive from the biotech industry in Rockville Maryland. These places know what stem cell research is about, what it can and cannot do. This is an educated populace and they understand stem cell research, so Fox will not be able to pull the sympathy card as much as Cardin hopes.

Chevy Chase is Cardin territory. Why would he need to campaign there if he were comfortably ahead? Steele spends a lot of his time in what is supposed to be Cardin territory, drumming up support.

Once again, Cardin is playing up that Michael Steele is a bad guy because he is a Republican, but is still not offering up anything about what he would do as a Senator.
