This weekend saw two performers I have enjoyed die.
Richard Jeni, a comedian whose performances usually had me laughing from about 1 minute into his show until hours aferward, died in an apparent suicide, although there has been no official ruling on the case. If you get a chance to see his HBO show, "The Platypus Man", get and be prepared to laugh.
Also, Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, died of unknown causes over the weeked as well. Delp's vocals, layered over complex guitar riffs by bandmate Tom Scholz, made Boston one of the best acts of the 70's and 80's. From songs like "More Than A Feeling," "Rock n' Roll Band," "Amanda," and dozens of others, Delp's vocals were a powerful influence on my childhood, when music first became a big part of my life. Here is a brief statement on the band's website.
