Are Teachers' Unions Going Too Far?

They appear to be in Los Angeles, where the LA teachers union has opposed the opening of charter schools, run by Green Dot, in the Watts section of LA. Edspresso has the story of how some liberals, like Eric Alterman and Susan Estrich are calling foul on the LA teachers' union.

Teachers Unions have a role, but that role is limited to the workplace protections of teachers and not education policy. It is these kinds of decisions, strong armed by the unions, that give them such a bad name.
