Midfielder Jose Francisco Torres, a twenty year old who was born in Texas and whose father is Mexican will join the U.S. squad in training camp starting Monday. To be frank, this was not the surprise I was hoping for--see here. But Torres, who plies his trade in Mexico with Pachuca, might be the future left winger and will no doubt challenge DaMarcus Beasley for that starting slot. With Eddie Lewis in his mid-30's (playing very well mind you, but still aging) and Beasley not showing a great deal for the U.S. national team and not getting very many minutes with Glasgow Rangers, Torres might very well be the future on the American left wing.
I have seen Torres in only one game this year and he was quick, likes to attack and go at players (something we desperately need). I do worry that his attack mindedness will cost him minutes since Bob Bradley likes his midfielders and wingers to defend an awful lot.
