Remember When Dissent Was the Highest Form of Patriotism

According to Democrats, dissent about health care is now "Un-american." Speaker Nancy Pelois and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer write in USA Today:
These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades.

Health care is complex. It touches every American life. It drives our economy. People must be allowed to learn the facts.
Yes, health care is complex, yes it is a primary driver of our economy, so why in the heck is Congress considering a, more or less, one size fits all solution? If the bill is over 1,000 pages in length, can one Congressman or any one committee tell his/her constituents what is in the bill? How about that fact? How about telling America what the words in the bill mean? How about specifics?

Americans are concerned, rightfully so, about the future of their health care. Are they angry? You bet, and when Members of Congress don't address their fears or try to address those fears with generalized principles and talking points, it does not diminish the anger, it only increases the anger. Adding to the anger is the notion that Congress and the Obama Administration are hiding something--or are too idealistic to understand the true nature of the problem.

These lefty fascists like Pelosi would be really quite comical...if WE weren’t the ones they were planning to control-

Now the DNC is deploying union palookas while at the same time hypocritically dismissing Obamacare opponents as paid shills -even running TV ads to slander them- and delirious SanFranNan is seeing imaginary Swastikas.

This should make clear to anyone just what these power-drunk elitists think of your opinion.

Note that whenever Obama, Emanuel, or Gibbs are asked about why polls show SO many people oppose their misguided Cap-n-Trade and Obamacare proposals, they ALWAYS segue-right-into “we need to educate the public…”.

LOL- save your breath... Constitutionally-aware American patriots don’t take lectures from Marxists.

[According to Democrats, dissent about health care is now "Un-american."] I am pretty sure Pelosi and Hoyer are saying the opposite: drowing out debate is un-american.

Also, while I could agree that there is not a sufficient public debate as to the specifics of the health care bill, there is at least one summary available online: http://edlabor.house.gov/blog/2009/07/americas-affordable-health-choices-act.shtml

The problem frankly is that we are sailing into, for us, uncharted territory with billions spent on something that could turn out to be an unqualified disaster. That's scary for everyone, not just conservatives. That O, whether you agree or disagree with his core beliefs, seems to be willing to compromise same doesn't imbue me, for one, with confidence. Had he not have this tendency, we could have at least been getting more bang for the buck.

Ilya,

I think we can disagree as to the intent of what Hoyer/Pelosi had behind their statement, the use of the term "Un-American" is one sure to inflame passions rather foster a health debate.

Quite frankly, while I don't think a lengthy debate is necessarily a bad or good thing (it depends greatly upon the content of the debate), I sure think that ramrodding a bill through Congress without adequate time to either read or digest the implications is the height of arrogance and quite frankly stupidity.
