As I had promised earlier today, I have completed the chart showing the smaller donor fundraising for the big six candidates. As I suspected, Obama is positively smacking the other candidates around when in comes to small donor fundraising. While Edwards has about a half a percentage point advantage in terms of percentage of small donors, Obama has raised more in small donor contributions than Edwards has raised in total individual contributions.
This chart also shows something that is important for the Clinton camp to note. Not only is Obama beating them in small donors, he is beating soundly in individual contributions. Obama appears to be demonstrating that his candidacy OUTSIDE the normal Democratic channels is proving effective. He has more donors, more smaller donors and an operation that seems clearly geared to capitalizing on those advantages given that his small donor operation ramped up between the two quarters at a higher rate than Clinton's.
