Columbus Crew and U.S. U-20 mens tean star Danny Szetela is rumored to be heading to the Italian leagues, either Serie A's Roma or Lazio in Serie B. According to The Offside which has compiled a couple of reports, Szetela's contract runs through the end of this year with the Crew and a transfer to Italy could come at the conclusion of this year, but before the closing of the transfer window in Italy.
Szetela, due to injuries, did not see a lot of time with the Crew prior to the U-20 World Cup in Canada. But Szetela played in all five U.S. Matches in the U-20 Cup and scored two goals, providing another important weapon for opposing teams to watch, in addtion to teammates Jozy Altidore and Freddy Adu.
A move to Italy would do wonders for the 20 year old midfielder. His versatility in the midfield would help any team, but he may not see much action in Serie A initially, but would like see a great deal of playing time in Serie B, the Italian second division. Even if sitting the bench for a Serie A team (Roma is rumored to be interested), the exposure to the Italian style of play and the high level training atmosphere will no doubt improve his game and that of the U.S. side in international competitions.
