Forging Signatures on Nominating Petition Nets Criminal Charges

In Harrisburg, PA, Political consultant Mark Zabierek has been charged with eight counts of forging signatures and eight counts of forging signatures and statements in a nomination petition. His attorney said that Zaierek waived his Miranda rights and may seek to have the charges waived to the court in a preliminary hearing set for September 24.

There is a lot to be said for a ballot petition process that calls for a filing fee only as opposed to signatures--it certainly makes things easier and less subject to these kinds of activities.
