Publix Supermarkets to Offer Prescription Drugs for Free

The Florida based Publix Supermarkets have announced plans to offer 7 popular prescription antibiotics for free. Publix is the latest prescription provided to enter the "drug wars" as retailers compete to bring in customers. Wal-Mart offers $4 dollar generic prescriptions on a vast array of generic drugs, as does Target and a number of other retailers, but Publix is the first to offer some drugs for free. The antibiotics that will be available are amoxicilin, cephalexin, penicillin VK, erythromycin, ampicillin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, and ciprofaxacin. The drugs are to be offered regardless of the patient's health plan or lack of health plan so long as the customer has a valid prescription and takes no more than a 14 day supply. Refills will be limited to those of allowed by the prescription.

Publix is a southeastern regional company with grocery stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
