The fact that John McCain got a loan to fund his campaign since his money meltdown last summer is something of an open secret. However, according to reports, McCain used his fundraising list as collateral. One concern might be that while valuable, the fundaising list might violate his "contract" with donors.
While a lot of campaigns may have privacy policies, I am not sure that a privacy policy is a contract with a donor, the breach of which would be actionable in court--assuming his donors want to go that far. Still, for the Godfather of campaign finance reform, it sure seems to be a strange step to take.
