Goff is reporting that U.S. midfielder on the rise Maurice Edu, the former Maryland Terrapin, is being eyed by Scottish powerhouse Celtic for a rumored $5 million transfer fee.
Glasgow Celtic is in the UEFA Champions League as a result of winning the Scottish Premier League last year. Coming off a great Olympic performance (playing out of position no less) Edu has been tapped by U.S. Head coach Bob Bradley to the Senior National team's trip to Guatamala for a World Cup qualifier. A solid defensive holding midfielder, Edu could play in the legendary Old Firm Derby between Celtic and Rangers, see European Cup play and get some playing time with one of the most well-known clubs in Europe.
While this would suck for Toronto fans and the MLS, it would be a great move for Edu, who I think is one of the best young players the U.S. has produced.
Error Correction. Edu is rumored to go to Old Firm Rivals Rangers, not Celtic. My bad to Gers fans and sorry Hoops fans.
