Too Short Hair Gets a Suspension

From Austin:
Derek Jackson, a Bailey Middle School student, was slapped with an in-school suspension because of his "buzz cut."

An assistant principal pulled Derek Jackson aside, after she saw his extremely short haircut. Both Derek and his mother say school told them the haircut violates the school's dress code. A copy of that dress code talks about disruptive hair color and shapes, like a mohawk, that violate the policy, but it makes no mention of hair length.
Buzz cuts are pretty common and I am not sure what is so disruptive about them.

Of course, the must be a racial angle:
Derek's mother thinks he was targeted because he is African-American.
